Sing 2 Health in Schools

Singing for health is particularly relevant to children, young people and staff in educational settings. It provides practical and evidence-based activities relevant to all age-groups, individuals and group sizes.

As a creative and cultural practice it can be tailored to the curriculum objectives and specific needs of each school and school community.

Staff Training in how to implement evidence-based practices to support emotional regulation, calm the nervous system and associated behaviours with Dr Jennie Eeles and Ruth Routledge

Join Ruth and therapist Dr Jennie Eeles for a workshop demonstrating embodiment, breathing, movement, voice exercises and visualisation practices to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system to help calm and regulate difficult emotions and move between emotion and nervous system states. They will also explain the theory behind the practice giving staff practical tools and a strong theoretical foundation to implement in the classroom.

Dr Jennie Eeles

In my job in mental health services, I regularly help people to regulate their emotions and nervous systems in varied and practical ways. Over the last four years I have been exploring my own singing for regulation practice and am excited to be able to share my discoveries! The research into the application of polyvagal theory outlines how beneficial the use of voice, movement, breathing and grounding into the body are to regulation.

Join us to practice and learn how to do this for yourself.

Ruth Routledge

Jennie and I share a fascination with the biological mechanisms which help us feel better after singing (when I say singing I really mean moving, breathing and using the voice, rather than singing songs).

Polyvagal Theory, which explains the mind-body connection and how when we stimulate the vagus nerve (the largest cranial nerve connecting the brain with our major organs and the autonomic nervous system) we feel safe, calmer and more able to cope with the challenges the world throws at us.

This workshop aims to give you both practical tools and a theoretical basis.
